Fundraisers to abseil down Cathedral in support of Coventry Foodbank
The daredevil challenge aims to raise vital funds for local charity helping people facing food poverty
A group of nine fundraisers will take on a thrilling 90ft abseil down Coventry Cathedral this Saturday to raise money for Coventry Foodbank.
The volunteers will descend from the top of one of Coventry's most iconic landmarks in support of the charity, which has been helping local people facing food crises for the past 15 years.
Founded in 2011, Coventry Foodbank has grown from a small community initiative into a vital service supporting thousands of people across the city each year.
Working alongside local churches, schools, businesses and referral agencies, the charity provides emergency food parcels as well as compassionate support for people experiencing hardship.
Among those encouraging others to take part is Coventry Foodbank Founder, Canon Gavin Kibble MBE, who completed the challenge himself last year.
Gavin said: "Last year I stood at the top of Coventry Cathedral and wondered what on earth I'd signed up for – and then I stepped off the edge. That terrifying moment of taking a leap of faith raised vital funds for people facing food crisis, and I wouldn't change a thing.
"If you've ever wanted to do something that genuinely takes your breath away while making a real difference, this is it."
The abseil is part of a wider charity fun day taking place at Coventry Cathedral, with activities for all ages.
Visitors will be able to enjoy free entry to the Blitz Museum, Coventry Cathedral and its historic Ruins, alongside a range of stalls and children's activities throughout the day.
Coventry Foodbank will also host a family-friendly activity tent, giving visitors the opportunity to learn more about the charity's work and how they can support people in need.
