Former teacher charged with non-recent sexual offences

A former teacher, from Bedworth, who worked at a school in Coventry, has been charged, after a report of non-recent sexual offences.

Benjamin Pateman, 47, has been charged with:

• Two counts of non-penetrative sexual activity with a child.

• Five counts of penetrative sexual activity with a child.

• Six counts of abuse of position of trust – sexual activity with a child.

The charges relate to a non-recent report of offences, against a teenage girl.

He has been bailed, to appear before magistrates, in Leamington, on 21 October.

Victims of alleged sexual offences have an automatic, lifelong right to anonymity. Anyone identifying a victim, or publishing information, which could lead someone working out who they are, is committing a criminal offence and will be prosecuted.
