A former soldier from Hull has been sentenced to seven years in prison after being found guilty of raping a woman in Nuneaton.

Daniel Black, aged 37, committed the offences in March 2023 when he spent the evening with the victim and went to her home in Nuneaton where he raped and sexually assaulted her.

The victim reported what had happened to Warwickshire Police.

Black, of Arkwright Park in Hull, was immediately arrested and was medically discharged from the Armed Forces during the investigation.

Following further investigations by police, he was charged with rape and assaulting a female over 13 by penetration.

In September, a jury found Black guilty of both counts at trial.

Appearing at Birmingham Crown Court on 12th December, Black was sentenced to seven years for rape and four years for assault, to be served concurrently.

Black will remain on the sex offender register indefinitely and has been issued with an indefinite restraining order preventing him from contacting the victim.

Detective Constable Heather Keogh, who investigated the case, said:

“I’m pleased that the court recognised the seriousness of these offences. Although no sentence can compare to the impact this has had on the victim, I’d like to commend them for the bravery they’ve shown throughout the investigation.

“As a force, we take all reports like this extremely seriously and will always carry out thorough investigations to try and bring offenders to justice.

“I hope that Black’s sentence sends a clear message to others who harm, or seek to harm, women, girls, or vulnerable people that they will be dealt with robustly.”
