Firefighters in Witherley responded early this morning to a bungalow fire caused by a lightning strike.

Nuneaton’s White Watch and crews from Polesworth and Leicestershire reached the scene in Orchard Close around 3:45AM.

Everyone managed to evacuate safely before the crews arrived.

Firefighters, equipped with Breathing Apparatus, entered the building aiming to reach the roof, where the fire had begun spreading.

Despite the initial efforts with hose reels, firefighters had to withdraw from the structure due to intensifying flames.

Attention shifted to shielding the neighbouring property from the fire, successfully keeping the flames at bay.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service teams remain on site to monitor and address any remaining hotspots.

Keeping escape routes clear, knowing the location of keys, and planning exits are essential practices to ensure safety during fire emergencies.

Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service offers Free Safe and Well Checks to assist residents in planning escape routes and checking smoke alarms.
