The family of a man who's body was recovered from a river in Leamington say he was an "amazing" father and grandfather.

Emergency Services were called to Victoria Park just before 7:45am on Wednesday (15 April) after a member of the public saw a man in the river.

Officers and Paramedics confirmed the man in his 50s - who has now been named as Adam Lucas - had died.

Police have launched a murder investigation and a post-mortem carried out on Thursday (16th April) established Adam had died as a result of "injuries consistent with an assault."

In a statement issued through Warwickshire Police Adam's family said: “We’re all shocked and heartbroken to hear the sad news of the sudden passing of our beloved Adam.

"He was an amazing and loved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and cousin.

"We kindly ask that he is kept in your thoughts and prayers while we try to navigate this as a family.”

Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Detective Inspector Gareth Unett said: “I understand this will be concerning for the local community, but I’d like to reassure them we have a team of detectives working to establish the full circumstances that led to the man’s death.

“We’re carrying out a number of enquiries including checking CCTV and will have officers in and around the park providing reassurance. If you have questions, please speak to them.

“We’d ask anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the area from late Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning to come forward and share what they know.

“Finally, I’d ask people not to speculate online as this can cause unnecessary distress to the family and may impact our investigation.”
