Driver caught careless driving on dashcam in Rugby
Dashcam footage led to a court sentence
A 52-year-old driver has been fined and given nine penalty points on his licence after his careless driving on the Rugby Western Relief Road in August was caught on dashcam footage.
The driver, who ignored a keep-left sign and narrowly avoided an oncoming car, received the sentence following a review of the footage submitted to Operation Snap, a scheme allowing drivers to submit dashcam videos of traffic offences for consideration by traffic officers.
Speaking about the incident, Inspector Dave Valente said: “This driver ignored a keep-left sign, nearly hit an oncoming car, and showed no regard for others.
"The sentence reflects this as the outcome could have been so much worse. We hope that being so close to losing his licence will now encourage him to be a better driver.”
Operation Snap enables the public to report offences such as driving carelessly or dangerously, using a mobile phone while driving, ignoring traffic lights, or driving too fast or too close to vulnerable road users like horse riders and cyclists.
Updates suggest one in five drivers now use dashcams, contributing to submissions like this to improve road safety measures.
