Coventry to mark Armed Forces Day with parade and service
Locals are invited to join the city's celebrations honouring serving personnel, veterans and their families
Coventry will mark Armed Forces Day this Saturday with a special service and parade through the city centre.
The annual event, held on the last Saturday in June, celebrates serving personnel, veterans, reservists, cadets and the families who support them and gives communities the opportunity to recognise their contribution and service.
The day will begin with a service at Holy Trinity Church at 10.30am, followed by a parade led by the 13th Coventry Scout Band, which will make its way into Broadgate between 11.30am and 11.45am.
The march-past will feature past, present and future members of the Armed Forces community and spectators are invited to gather in Broadgate to watch the procession and show their support.
The Lord Mayor of Coventry, Councillor Roger Bailey, will take the salute during the event and has chosen the Royal British Legion (Coventry Branch) as one of his charities for the year.
Councillor Bailey said: "This is always a wonderful day for the city. Coventry has strong links to the Armed Forces, and many of us are proud of our family's own personal ties.
"This day gives us all a chance to join together and show our pride – in our family members, and in all those who bravely serve, their families who support them, and the reservists, veterans and cadets.
"I am greatly looking forward to the day, and I hope people will come along and help the city of Coventry say 'thank you' to those who risk so much to keep us safe."
