Teacher from Coventry banned after altering students coursework
Mr Kumar prohibited from teaching due to misconduct involving students' BTEC coursework
A Coventry teacher has been banned from teaching after being found guilty of unacceptable professional conduct and conduct likely to bring the profession into disrepute.
Sai Krishnan Santhosh Kumar, previously employed at Meadow Park School in Whitley, Coventry, was subjected to a professional conduct panel hearing held by the Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) between 14th and 17th July 2026.
The panel presented evidence against Mr Kumar, which showed that he altered students' coursework for the Pearson BTEC Tech Award Level 1/2 in Enterprise without their knowledge.
Mr Kumar admitted to amending coursework for several students, including creating entire presentations, which led to pupils unknowingly submitting work that was not their own.
Findings and Impact
The panel concluded that Mr Kumar's actions were dishonest and lacked integrity. His interference resulted in the complete disregard of one module of the coursework, potentially affecting the students' final grades and future career prospects.
Despite Mr Kumar’s cooperation during the investigation and his admission of wrongdoing, the panel noted the seriousness of his misconduct due to impacting a significant number of students and his long-standing position within the profession.
Prohibition Order
The panel recommended a prohibition order which has been upheld on behalf of the Secretary of State for Education. Mr Kumar is banned from teaching indefinitely across all educational settings, including schools, sixth form colleges, and relevant youth accommodations in England.
The prohibition is set for a minimum of three years, meaning Mr Kumar may apply for the order to be reconsidered no sooner than 27th July 2029. He has the right of appeal to the High Court within 28 days from the date of the official decision.
