Coventry shop shut down for selling illegal tobacco and vapes
Store closure aimed at reducing crime and protecting public health
A shop in Coventry has been ordered to close after repeatedly selling illegal tobacco and vapes.
Tile Hill Mini Market, located on Station Avenue, will remain shut until 14th October following a court order granted by Coventry magistrates.
The decision came after the store was caught selling these products for a third time, according to Coventry City Council's Trading Standards department.
Their application for the closure order was supported by Coventry Police, who aim to reduce crime and protect young people from harmful products.
Coventry South Northwest Inspector Dal Bal said: "We received reports that this shop was repeatedly selling illegal cigarettes and vapes. The sale of these products undermines legitimate businesses, evades regulations, and can pose significant risks to public health.
"Working alongside Trading Standards, our teams have taken action to close these business premises. Our priority is to protect our communities and tackle those who repeatedly break the law by putting illegal profits ahead of the safety and wellbeing of the public."
Councillor John McNicholas, responsible for Community Safety and Cohesion, expressed his approval of the closure. "I'm really pleased that we have secured yet another closure order on this shop! We are increasing our efforts in partnership with the Police and the community and I will continue to take a zero tolerance approach to any illegal activity by retailers, whether that's illegal tobacco, vape or any other counterfeit sales.
"I know this action will deter other retailers who wish to break the law - and I encourage all our residents to report this criminal activity."
