Coventry man jailed for multiple knifepoint robberies
Philip McCarthy sentenced for threatening shop workers with a knife
A Coventry man has been jailed following a series of knifepoint robberies targeting shops across the city.
Philip McCarthy, 38, threatened shop workers with a knife during his crime spree earlier this year, stealing cash and goods worth hundreds of pounds.
McCarthy was apprehended by city centre officers in February and subsequently faced charges including robbery, attempted robbery, possession of a knife, and possession of Class A drugs.
This month, Warwick Crown Court sentenced him to five years and five months behind bars.
Sergeant Ian Powell from the St Michaels and Hillfields Neighbourhood team commended the role of proactive patrols in McCarthy’s arrest: "Our officers were able to identify McCarthy as a suspect in these incidents after examining CCTV and engaging with businesses while on patrol."
Powell emphasized the importance of community cooperation in fighting crime: "The information we receive from residents and businesses helps us build investigations and take action against prolific offenders like this."
Local police in Coventry work with partners such as Coventry City Council to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour, conducting daily patrols across the city.
Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activity to the police on 101, and call 999 in emergencies.
