Participants in the Coventry Half Marathon were met with an unexpected challenge as the race route exceeded its planned distance.

The organisers of the event have acknowledged the mistake, explaining that the course was incorrectly marked, resulting in runners covering 13.6 miles rather than the usual 13.1 miles.

The discrepancy was traced to the turning point that was misplaced by 256 metres, ultimately lengthening the route by 512 metres in total.

Apologising for the error, the organisers expressed their disappointment and announced measures to rectify the situation.

To ensure runners are accurately credited for their efforts, the timing company has adjusted all results to reflect what they would have been over the standard 13.1-mile course.

As compensation, race finishers will receive a unique link next week, allowing them to gain discounted entry for the 2027 event scheduled for 11th April.

Despite the setback, the organisers extended their gratitude to the participants for their involvement and assured them that a thorough investigation will be conducted to prevent future errors.
