Coventry car park closed after antisocial behaviour reports
Coventry’s Belgrade Plaza car park has been closed by police following months of reported antisocial behaviour
Coventry’s Belgrade Plaza car park has been closed by police following months of reported antisocial behaviour, including drug use and dealing, littering, trespassing and street drinking.
West Midlands Police secured a court order after warnings, enforcement action and increased patrols failed to resolve the problems, which officers said had caused concern for local residents, businesses and visitors.
Inspector Maria Perrin said: “We have worked tirelessly to deal with concerns at this car park over a number of months.
"By obtaining a closure order we are aiming to reduce drug use, trespassing and threatening behaviour in the car park. Antisocial behaviour has no place in our city centre.
"The St Michael's neighbourhood team will continue to patrol around the Belgrade Plaza ensuring offenders are dealt with swiftly and we urge the public to report antisocial behaviour in or around the Belgrade Plaza car park to us."
Coventry City Council is also closing the slip road from the Ring Road to the car park, although drivers who have vehicles inside will be able to retrieve them and leave.
