Coventry business leaders supporting suppliers hit by JLR cyber attack

Business leaders in the West Midlands have launched a new survey to engage with suppliers hit by the JLR cyber attack

Business leaders in Coventry and Warwickshire are engaging with suppliers hit by the Jaguar Land Rover cyber attack.

Through a new snap survey, Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce alongside Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce and Black Country Chamber of Commerce are asking JLR suppliers for information on the effect the recent cyber-attack is having on them so they can effectively lobby Government on their behalf.

The anonymous survey is just eight questions long and will run until September 26, with the results published the following week. It is open to members and non-members of the Chamber.

Corin Crane, chief executive of the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce, said: “The recent Cyber Attack on JLR has resulted in a halt in production that is now into its third week, and means that orders for parts have been frozen and suppliers are locked out of their digital ordering systems – preventing deliveries and fulfilment of contracts.

“As well as the production of new cars, this is also affecting the maintenance of existing JLR vehicles.

“In the West Midlands and Warwickshire, JLR employs around 30,000 staff with a further 100,000 staff in its supply chain, and this crisis is now impacting hundreds of local automotive businesses.

“Whilst both JLR and the government are working hard to restore systems and get everything back online, we want to make sure that local supply chain businesses get the support they need to survive this critical time.

“We are working with colleagues at the Greater Birmingham and Black Country Chambers to help lobby on behalf of businesses in the region, and we need as much data as possible to highlight the issues they are facing and to feed potential solutions into the work that JLR, the government and Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders are leading on nationally.”
