Careless driver disqualified after dangerous overtake in Baginton
Dashcam footage helped convict 25-year-old from Coventry
A 25-year-old driver from Coventry has been disqualified from driving for six months after a reckless overtake on Silver Eagle Way in Baginton resulted in an accident last April.
The incident involved the driver attempting to overtake a van, resulting in debris on the road and nearly colliding with an HGV traveling the opposite direction.
After damaging the van, the driver failed to stop, exchange details, or report the incident to police within the necessary timeframe.
Dashcam footage from the van captured the entire incident, which played a crucial role in the driver’s conviction.
Upon review, police issued a Notice of Intended Prosecution to the driver.
In court, he pleaded guilty to careless driving and received a community order, which includes completing 120 hours of unpaid supervised work, along with being ordered to pay £250 in costs and victim surcharge.
“This collision shows how valuable dashcam can be as the footage provided clear evidence of what had happened," Mrs Smith, Police Led Prosecutor, said.
“We can only hope the six-month driving ban and unpaid work serves as a wake-up call and encourages him to think more carefully about how he drives in the future.”
