The Better Care Fund (BCF) Plan for 2026/27 was approved during the council’s Cabinet meeting on Monday, bringing together NHS and council funding to improve health and social care services across the county.

The scheme is designed to make services easier to access, better coordinated and more focused on prevention, particularly for older people, disabled residents and those living with long-term or complex health conditions.

Funding through the Better Care Fund will support a range of services including helping people remain independent at home, speeding up support after hospital stays and providing home adaptations to make daily living safer and easier.

The programme also aims to reduce unnecessary hospital admissions and prevent people from entering long-term care when alternative support can be provided in the community.

Existing adult social care and community health services across Warwickshire will continue under the plan, while additional work will support the development of neighbourhood-based NHS services tailored to local communities.

The £80.1 million funding package includes:

  • £6.39 million for Disabled Facilities Grants to help disabled residents adapt their homes
  • £18.5 million from NHS contributions towards adult social care, reablement services, community equipment and hospital discharge support
  • £36.5 million from the Integrated Care Board for community-based NHS services and temporary discharge support
  • £18.6 million in local authority Better Care Grant funding to protect adult social care services

“The Better Care Fund is a vital part of how we support Warwickshire residents to live well and stay independent,” she said.

“This funding helps people get the right care at the right time – whether that’s support to stay safely at home, help to recover after a hospital stay, or changes to their home that make daily life easier.

“By working closely with our NHS partners, we can provide more joined-up, person-centred support while reducing avoidable pressure on hospitals and frontline services.”

She added that Cabinet’s backing of the plan demonstrates the council’s commitment to protecting adult social care services and improving outcomes for communities across Warwickshire.
