Boy arrested after knife incident at Warwickshire College
Warwickshire Police attended Warwickshire College in Leamington this afternoon (September 23)
A boy has been arrested following reports of someone with a knife at Warwickshire College in Leamington this afternoon.
Warwickshire Police said they received the report 12.22pm today (September 23).
Two other boys were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder following an incident while officers were present at the scene.
Chief Inspector Simon Ryan, policing commander for South Warwickshire, said: āThis was clearly a terrifying incident for everyone concerned and I would like to reassure people that we have taken prompt action to detain a suspect.
āA 17-year-old boy was arrested a short time later at his home following enquiries at the scene. He has been arrested on suspicion of attempt to wounding and possession of an offensive weapon.
āWe are carrying out searches at his home as part of the investigation.
āNobody was injured. At this time, we believe the incident was part of a disagreement and we donāt believe there is any further risk to the community.
āWe are aware of footage of the incident on social media, and this is forming part of our enquiries. Iād encourage anyone with video footage to contact police.
āWe will maintain a police presence at the school, and Iād urge anyone with concerns to speak to one of our officers.ā
In a statement on their website Warwickshire College said it had been advised to go into lockdown by police while the incident was investigated and that another separate incident outside of the college was also dealt with by police.
They also stressed that the safety and wellbeing of staff and students was of the upmost importance and that they would continue to work with external agencies to make sure the campus was a safe place study and work.
