Recovery walk for people dealing with addiction and gambling harms
A walk takes place in Falmouth today
A walk to promote recovery and wellbeing in Falmouth takes place today.
The coastal walk from Gyllyngvase to Swanpool beach is an opportunity for people struggling with addiction and gambling harms to come together and learn about services which are there to support them.
It's being run by Ara, who are a charity supporting people across the South West with confidential gambling help.
Lindsey Taylor is the community engagement lead with Ara in Cornwall: "To be outside is really lovely. People can talk in an open space, in smaller groups if they want to. When we're talking about gambling harms, stigma and shame is really important because that's a massive barrier."
It aims to allow people to build connections with local services, organizations, and individuals with lived experience of addiction and breaking the stigma by fostering understanding, collaboration, and support in the heart of Cornwall.
Lindsey added: "It's important to talk about gambling harm which can be really hidden, and addiction which is something we don't talk enough about. It can get to a point where people's lives can be really impacted."
