Twenty new skilled jobs have been created in Scorrier after a six million pound investment in a new cottage cheese production facility.

The facility, at Rodda's Creamery, was officially opened last week by HRH The Duchess of Gloucester.

The dairy firm is best known for its Cornish clotted cream and butter, but is now expanding its manufacturing capability with a site capable of producing up to four thousand tonnes of cottage cheese a year.

According to Rodda's, the new roles are year-round positions covering everything from processing through to packaging, as the facility ramps up production.

Bringing jobs to Cornwall

Executive chairman Nicholas Rodda, who is the fifth generation of his family to work in the business, said the investment is a step towards creating lasting employment in the county.

"I think it's vitally important in this day and age to just bring jobs into Cornwall," he said.

"And the jobs that we created here at the creamery are year-round jobs."

He said the roles would rely heavily on the skills of the people running the new plant.

"There's a lot of automation within the process, but it is down to the skill of the people that will make this cottage cheese product a successful product for years to come," Mr Rodda added.

"Cornwall food and drink has a great reputation across the UK - and indeed, worldwide.

"There's a lot of different types of roles within this operation, from engineering to technical resource to new product development. It's a real team effort to get a pot of cottage cheese out onto the shelf."
