Cornwall Council says Trelander and St Clements Community Hall in Truro has sustained damage due to a fire.

Teams were called to tackle the blaze yesterday evening.

It had spread from the ground floor to the roof.

People are being asked to avoid visiting the centre until further notice.

In an update last night, fire crews said: "Fire Control received multiple 999 calls at 17:25 to a fire at the Community Centre in Trelander, Truro.

"The fire is believed to have originated on the ground floor but has spread to the roof void.

"The attendance has escalated in accordance with the severity of the incident and there are currently 6 appliances, an aerial ladder platform and a BA support vehicle on scene.

"Crews are using 4 sets of breathing apparatus and 3 hose reel jets to tackle the fire.

"Members of the public in the vicinity are being warned to keep doors and windows closed to avoid smoke plumes."
