Trago Mills have confirmed its store in Falmouth will remain open, after speculation around its potential closure.

However, the company have warned that there will be changes which will see job loses and department closures.

In a statement from the board of Trago Mills said that despite "speculation" around a "complete store closure" the retailer had "found a formula" which would allow the Falmouth store to remain open and keep "the most jobs possible."

They added: "These changes will sadly see 10 colleagues leaving us through redundancy together with the rationalisation of the range and closure of 2 departments which are no longer commercially viable, given weak footfall in the high street.

"The Board continue to explore all options to achieve a return to profitability which may require further changes."

Earlier this year in November the retailer, which has had a presence on the town’s High Street for nearly 50 years, said the Falmouth branch was no longer financially viable and they were consulting staff over its future.

At the time, the company Chairman Bruce Robertson said there were “six figure deficits” at the site.

The retailer also blamed “eye-watering” energy costs, as well as increased national insurance and minimum wage requirements, for compounding the financial pressure on its business.

Trago Mills' statement today also thanked people for their support: "Our thanks go out to the many messages of support and compassion over the past month and, for now, our clear message and plea to an (at least in part) adoring public is…if you want a Trago presence in Falmouth, PLEASE USE US!"
