Storm Goretti causes school closures: full list here
A number of schools across Cornwall will be closed or opening late on Monday 12 January 2026 as the aftermath of Storm Goretti continues to affect the county.
Last updated 12th Jan 2026
Cornwall Council said the storm, which brought winds of over 100mph to the South West, has left many buildings facing structural damage and other storm-related issues. Fallen trees, mass power outages and strong winds have all contributed to disruption across the area.
In an update issued on Sunday, the council said:
“Some schools will not be able to reopen on Monday due to structural damage or other storm-related issues. Other schools may open later in the day to allow time for essential safety checks to take place."
"Parents and carers are advised to check messages from their child’s school or the school’s website for the latest information before travelling.”
This comes just days after schools were forced to shut last week due to snow and ice warnings.
