Met Office warns of “difficult driving conditions” due to Storm Eowyn
There are yellow weather warnings in place for the whole South West
The Met Office is warning people across the South West to drive extra carefully and plan ahead this morning (24 January) due to Storm Eowyn.
There are yellow weather warnings in place for rain and wind across the region.
They are expecting rainfalls between midnight and 9 o’clock this morning while the strong winds will continue throughout the afternoon until they calm down around 3pm.
Carrie Chalk, operating meteorologist at the Met Office, said: “Expect some difficult driving conditions, during rush hour in particular. There could be some spray on the roads.
“We also have a wider yellow wind warning, too, so expect to see some strong winds, especially along the coast and in the most exposed areas”.
The worst hours will be between midnight and 6am during which the Met Office expects “heavy spells of rain accompanied by some very strong and gusty winds”.
The worst of the rain is forecast to have cleared by 11am – the winds however will continue into the afternoon.
To prepare for the weather conditions, Carrie Chalk recommends to plan ahead.
“Make sure to give yourself extra time during your journeys. There could also be some transport disruptions, such as longer train journeys”.
She also urges those living in coastal areas to be careful of any flying debris and large coastal waves.
Generally, the best thing to do, she said, is to “keep an eye out on the forecast as well as the latest warnings”.
