Freddie Clow, a 27-year-old who resides in Penzance with no fixed address, has been sentenced to five and a half years in prison for an attack involving a broken bottle in the town centre.

The incident took place on 1st July 2025 in the early hours, when Clow brutally assaulted a stranger walking home along Market Jew Street after visiting the Seven Stars inn.

At Truro Crown Court in January, Clow was found guilty of section 18 grievous bodily harm.

He notably admitted to theft and criminal damage charges prior to the trial.

On the night of the attack, the victim remembers being approached and subsequently experiencing violent kicks, eventually waking up in the hospital.

The attack was recorded on video from nearby buildings, and the footage was pivotal in Clow’s conviction.

Witnesses recounted seeing Clow over the victim, searching through his belongings before walking away.

The victim was found unresponsive, with significant bleeding at the scene.

He was rushed to the hospital and examined, revealing wounds including a glass fragment embedded in his skin.

Another witness reported hearing a confrontation followed by a bottle smashing, later seeing Clow on the ground attacking the victim.

The witness documented the event, which included Clow rifling through the victim's pockets.

Clow was identified leaving the area with an object in hand.

A third witness, unable to sleep, encountered the victim bleeding and two individuals walking away, laughing.

He administered first aid until authorities arrived.

Shortly after, Clow caused criminal damage by throwing paving slabs and bricks at a nearby building.

Rhys Salisbury, the investigating officer, commented, "This was a brutal and unprovoked attack committed against a victim who was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time as he made his way home after an evening out."

Salisbury added, "We hope this sentence proves there is no place for violent crime in our society. We will continue to actively pursue and bring those responsible for such violence to justice."
