A teenage girl and her dad have been rescued, after the 13-year-old's paddleboard was blown offshore at Pentewan Sands.

Coastguard and RNLI teams were tasked to save the pair yesterday morning (Monday 10 April).

The girl's dad went into the water to help, but both were taken by the wind and currents to rocks to the east of the beach.

The Coastguard say their fixed wing plane 'Rescue 21' was already in the area at the time and offered to help with the operation. It circled above to direct Fowey RNLI crews towards the pair.

Mevagissey Coastguard say both the All Weather Lifeboat and Inshore Lifeboat attended:

"The lifeboat landed both casualties on the beach into our care. Luckily, they were both unharmed.

"A timely reminder to carefully consider the conditions before entering the water. We would also strongly advise anyone using a paddle board to wear a Lifejacket.

"We’d like to point out for clarity that Cornwall Water Sports was closed due to the weather and did not supply the paddleboard, which belonged to the casualties. But we’d like to thank them for assistance on the beach."
