Prince William, who holds the position as Duke of Cornwall as well as Prince of Wales, visited Nansledan, a sustainable urban extension to Newquay, to observe the Duchy's approach to modern community development.

During his visit, Prince William explored plans for Market Street, which is set to be one of the first new high streets in over a century, aimed at supporting local businesses and fostering long-term economic growth.

He interacted with residents of new build-to-rent homes and participated in a short community walkabout.

At Market Street, Prince William and members of the community, including families who have lived in Nansledan for a decade, a child from the local Naturally Learning nursery, and a resident from the Nansledan Community Centre, participated in cementing their handprints in stones used for building works.

Additionally, Prince William visited a Duchy-led housing initiative that addresses homelessness in collaboration with St Petrocs and The Royal Foundation’s Homewards.

He learned how this project provides secure, long-term accommodation through a collaborative approach.

Upon the conclusion of the visit, Prince William commented: "Three years ago, we set out to take a different approach, to think more carefully about how the Duchy could use its land to create opportunity and support people over the long term, including launching a project here in Cornwall to help tackle homelessness with the right support around it.

"It’s fantastic to come back at Nansledan and to see that beginning to take shape, and to meet some of the people now calling it home. There’s still more to do, but it’s encouraging to see what’s already possible when you bring together the right people, ideas and ambition."

This visit builds on a previous engagement in 2024, when Prince William announced plans for temporary accommodation for local people experiencing homelessness alongside a new private rented scheme targeted at those with lower incomes.

These initiatives contribute to a connected community with sustainable housing solutions at its core.
