A generous £70,000 donation has been given to YMCA Cornwall by Prince William.

The Duke of Cornwall's cash has helped to kickstart their campaign, called 'Your Help Their Future', which is their mission to build safe new homes for 16 to 25-year-olds who need a place to stay.

The organisation already provides supported accommodation for vulnerable young people for up to two years, with the mission of providing a secure foundation from which young people can move towards independent living, remain in education and find employment.

They support 50 young people in Penzance with 46 self-contained flats, four move-on flats in the community and four short-term rooms with shared facilities.

YMCA Cornwall's Housing Support Officers create a personalised support plan to help these young people set and achieve targets concerning education, employment and training.

'We need your help'

Sharing the news on their social media page, bosses at YMCA Cornwall said: "The wait is over.

"We’re proud to launch Your Help, Their Future, our new fundraising campaign to build safe new homes for young people at risk of homelessness in Cornwall.

"Thanks to the Duke of Cornwall's Charitable Foundation, we’ve already received a generous £70,000 to launch.

"But we need your help to reach our goal of £250,000 to build four new flats.

"Every donation brings us closer to giving vulnerable young people the future they deserve."
