Police have launched an investigation and are appealing for witnesses after reports of a seagull being attacked in St Ives.

The attack is reported to have happened on the town's seafront yesterday afternoon (June 10).

Devon and Cornwall Police say social media posts state that "a man punched and beat a seagull."

The force added that while the posts have been "widely shared online" the matter was not reported to them by anyone present at the scene.

Officers say they are now aware of the alleged incident after receiving a third hand report and are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with relevant footage to contact them.
