Detectives are seeking witnesses following an aggravated burglary in St Ives yesterday.

A group of men forced their way into an address in the Chapel/Gabriel Street area around 6.25am. One of the men was believed to have been in possession of a knife and a small firearm.

They then fled the property in a car, stealing a safe from the address.

Local and firearms officers attended.

Police enquiries led to an address in the Treneere area of Penzance later the same day.

A man in his 30s from Penzance was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary, possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear or violence, driving with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit and possession of Class B drug with intent to supply. He has been released on bail until 11 June pending further enquiries.

The occupant of the premises has been traced and is safe and well.

A scene guard was put in place at the property but lifted around 10pm last night, 11 March.

In a statement, Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Enquiries are ongoing and officers are appealing to anyone who may have information to help with the investigation to contact them."
