Penzance shoplifter jailed for 17 months in local crackdown

A Penzance shoplifter has been jailed for 17 months, for a number of incidents in the town.
26 year old Freddie Clow, of no fixed abode, has been sentenced at Truro Crown Court, charged with thefts from shops during April.
Over £300 worth of stock was taken from Boots.
PC Stewart, who worked on the investigation, said: “I’m pleased we were able to secure this conviction and sentence. Clow has been a prolific offender who repeatedly targeted shops without any consideration of the impact his behaviour would have on employees or the local businesses he was stealing from.
“I hope this sends a clear message, especially to those local businesses whose livelihoods are heavily impacted by retail theft, that your reports are being heard and your information is being acted on.”
The conviction is part of the Penzance police team’s approach to targeting prolific shoplifters.
Officers have been regularly visiting local businesses to form positive relationships, encourage reporting and build intelligence regarding repeat offenders.
In addition to working with retailers, police regularly link in with local organisations to address the long-term issues surrounding shoplifting in an effort to deter people from offending in the future.
Police also carry out intelligence-led foot patrols during peak times, patrolling areas where crime has happened or is likely to happen.
