Plea for signatures to bring back Falmouth swimming pool facilities
The MP for Truro and Falmouth has put out the appeal for her official launch of the parliamentary petiton
A Cornish MP warns many children are having to travel to learn how to swim, following the closure of Falmouth's only public pool three years ago.
Ships and Castles closed in 2022 and a formal Parliamentary petition has since launched calling on the Government to support the development of swimming pool facilities in the town.
MP Jayne Kirkham, for Truro and Falmouth, says she wants to ensure young people and adults have an area for swimming lessons, and health and mental health benefits, without having to travel miles out of town.
In a video shared on her website, she says:
"Since then, Falmouth and the surrounding area hasn't had access to a swimming pool.
"That's a real problem to our children in Falmouth who've had to travel a long way to do their swimming lessons with school and sometimes aren't able to do at all - and for some of the people who live in Falmouth who use that pool for health and wellness reasons."
