A warning has been issued to dog owners across the Cornish coast, after a large lump of palm oil was found washed up on the shore.
Newquay coastguards were called to Holywell Beach on Thursday (27th February) to investigate reports that pollution had been washed up.
On arrival, they instead found a boulder-like deposit of palm oil.
While palm oil itself isn't technically poisonous to dogs, it can be dangerous if eaten in large quantities due to its high fat content.
It can potentially cause digestive issues like diarrhea, vomiting, and in severe cases, pancreatitis.
Contact your vet immediately if you believe your dog has ingested some.
In a post on Facebook, Newquay Coastguard Search & Rescue Team said: "This afternoon at 16:20, Newquay Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked to Holywell Beach to investigate reports of pollution washed up on the beach.
"Upon arrival they located a sizeable chunk of toxic Palm Oil.
"The team removed it to a safe place for collection by the council.
"Thank you to Holywell Bay Surf Life Saving Club and local residents for all their assistance today.
"If you see anything suspicious along the coast, please report it."
