Woman airlifted to hospital after becoming trapped in A392 crash

A local woman in her 80s has been airlifted to hospital after being trapped in a crash in Newquay.

Emergency crews were called to reports of a collision on the A392 at White Acres involving a tractor and a car earlier this morning (26/11).

Firefighters freed the casualty using specialist rescue gear, while police, ambulance and the National Grid were also at the scene.

In a statement, Cornwall Fire and Rescue said: "Two appliances from Newquay and the rescue tender from Bodmin responded to a road traffic collision.

"The incident involved a tractor and car with one person medically and physically trapped.

"Crews used crash rescue equipment to release the casualty.

"Police, Ambulance and National Grid also attended."

Police say the woman suffered serious injures and was taken to Derriford Hospital.

The road was closed but was reopened at 2:15pm after the vehicle was recovered and collision investigators examined the scene.

In a statement, Devon and Cornwall Police said:

"We are appealing for witnesses and dash-cam footage following a road traffic collision on the A392 at White Acres near Newquay.

"The emergency services were called at around 9.50am on Wednesday 26 November following a report of the collision involving a red Ford Fiesta and a yellow JCB tractor.

"As a result of the collision, a local woman in her 80s was airlifted to Derriford Hospital having suffered serious injuries.

"The road was reopened by 2.15pm after collision investigators examined the scene and the vehicle was recovered.

"Officers from the Roads Policing Team are appealing for any witnesses of the incident, or anybody with relevant dash-cam footage to get in touch via 101 or our website quoting reference 50250303279."
