Changes are coming to Newquay Zoo in Cornwall this summer, as work begins on new immersive habitats and experiences.

The venue says a 'savannah route' will give clearer views of the animals - including meerkats and porcupines.

A new 'Madagascar zone' will feature free-roaming lemurs, plus a nocturnal environment for the aye-aye that's moving there soon from Paignton Zoo in Devon.

Steven van den Heuvel, the transition manager for Newquay Zoo, said: "This is the beginning of a really exciting new phase.

“We want visitors to feel like they are stepping into new worlds, rather than simply viewing animals from a distance."

Initial designs are also in place for a future giraffe habitat.
