Newquay Pride cancelled due to severe weather conditions
Organisers have pledged to hold the event by the end of the year
The organisers of Newquay Pride have confirmed that the upcoming parade will now be cancelled due to severe weather.
Thousands had been set to gather in Newquay on Saturday (August 29th) for the parade, but this has now been stopped as a result of strong winds and thunderstorms that are due to hit the south of the country this weekend.
In a statement, Cornwall Pride - the organisers behind the parade - apologised, but insisted participants needed to be safe in the poor weather conditions.
The company said: "Due to the severe weather conditions, we have made the difficult decision to cancel Newquay Pride tomorrow.
"This decision has not been made lightly," they added. "The safety and wellbeing of our community, volunteers, performers, traders and everyone planning to attend must always come first.
"With the current forecast, we cannot safely deliver the event that our community deserves. We know how disappointing this will be, and we share that disappointment.
"Cornwall Pride cares deeply about our community, and we are committed to making sure Newquay Pride can run again later in the year.
"We will be working hard to explore a new date and will share further updates as soon as we can."
