Newquay BID launches Phase Two of street art trail: “The Door Art Tour”
Newquay’s high street is about to get even more colourful, as Newquay BID launches Phase Two of its popular Newquay Street Art Walking Tour – and this time, the focus is on doors.
The new phase, called The Door Art Tour, will see local artists invited to transform high street doorways into original works of art, with a £1,000 cash prize on offer for the winning mural.
From landmark walls to art-filled doors
Over the past few years, Newquay BID’s large-scale murals have become a much-loved feature of the town, generating strong engagement on social media and proving popular with both residents and visitors.
While Newquay BID continues to seek funding for more major wall murals, the next chapter of the project is now underway.
The Door Art Tour will create a smaller-scale trail that links the town’s existing landmark murals, encouraging people to wander further along the high street and discover new corners of the town centre.
Newquay BID is aiming to recruit at least 20 town centre businesses willing to volunteer a door for an artist to transform. These door murals will help:
- Connect different parts of the high street
- Encourage visitors to explore more of the town centre
- Add colour, creativity and vibrancy to everyday spaces
How it works
The project is designed to be simple, collaborative and community-focused:
- Businesses volunteer a suitable door and secure permission from their landlord or building owner.
- Local artists apply to take part in the project.
- Artists are matched with participating businesses.
- Artists and door owners agree the final concept together, ensuring it suits both the business and the artist’s style.
Artists and door owners agree the final concept together, ensuring it suits both the business and the artist’s style.
All murals must be completed and photographed by 31st March.
Once complete, every doorway mural will be showcased on the Love Newquay website and across social media, where the public will be invited to vote for their favourite design.
£1,000 prize for the winning door
The artist behind the most popular door mural – as voted for by the public – will receive a £1,000 cash prize.
Participating businesses are also encouraged, where they can, to support their artist with small gestures such as refreshments or vouchers, helping to foster a strong sense of community around the project.
Creativity at the heart of The Door Art Tour
A core principle of The Door Art Tour is artistic freedom.
While Newquay BID welcomes artwork inspired by Newquay’s coastline, surf culture, heritage and independent spirit, artists will be given genuine creative licence.
The aim is to inspire, not restrict.
To support this:
Artists are encouraged to bring their own style and ideas to each door.
Businesses will be asked to collaborate positively and avoid unnecessary limitations.
The goal is for each piece to feel authentic to the artist while still being appropriate for a public-facing town centre setting.

Building a more vibrant high street
The Door Art Tour marks another step in strengthening Newquay’s creative identity and building on the success of the existing street art trail.
By increasing the amount of public art – from large murals to smaller doorways – the project aims to:
- Encourage greater footfall across the town centre
- Support and showcase local artistic talent
- Spark social media engagement and online buzz
- Add colour and character to the high street
- Create a stronger sense of pride and place for residents and businesses alike
Newquay’s street art story is still being written – and this latest phase invites businesses, artists and the public to help shape how it looks.
