A new centre dedicated to supporting veterans and their families is set to open in Plymouth, enhancing services across Devon and Cornwall.

Led by Improving Lives Plymouth (ILP), the Peninsula VALOUR Centre is part of a government-backed initiative to improve access to essential services for veterans.

Located at Ernest English House, the Plymouth hub will provide a centralised location for joined-up support, connecting veterans with housing, employment, health, and wellbeing services.

The project aims to eliminate the "postcode lottery" that has previously affected veterans seeking support, offering a "one-stop shop" for the assistance they need.

Nationwide, the VALOUR programme is supported by over £13 million investment, contributing to a £50 million initiative focused on better connecting veteran services.

In addition to the main centre in Plymouth, pop-up centres will be established across the region, including a planned satellite site in Truro.

Luke Pollard, MP for Plymouth Sutton and Devonport, expressed his support for the new centre, highlighting Plymouth’s military heritage and the benefits the hub will bring to the wider region.

Rob Smith, Chief Executive of ILP, emphasised the importance of accessible, person-centred support for veterans, reinforcing the commitment of the region’s network of partner organisations.

Improving Lives Plymouth has a history of supporting veterans alongside NHS services, local authorities, and voluntary groups.

The new centre will operate Monday to Friday, providing both in-person and outreach services across Devon and Cornwall.
