Police say a man is missing after 'getting into difficulty' in the water near Polzeath.

Devon and Cornwall Police were called by Coastguard yesterday (Sunday 19 April) afternoon.

The force said: "We were called by Coastguard on the afternoon of Sunday 19 April following a report of a man getting into difficulty in the water near Greenaway Beach, Polzeath.

"He remains missing at this time. Searches are ongoing in the area.

"A second man also reported to have gone into the water recovered himself to land safe and well."

HM Coastguard said: "A report of concern was made at about 4.35pm on 19 April about a man in the water near Greenaway beach, Polzeath. HM Coastguard sent Polzeath and Boscastle Coastguard Rescue Teams, an HM Coastguard Helicopter, and RNLI lifeboats from Padstow and Rock.

"A second man also reported to have gone into the water recovered himself to land safe and well. Devon and Cornwall Police attended as well as South Western Ambulance Service. The search has now been stood down pending further information."
