The annual fireworks display on Bonfire Night in Falmouth has been cancelled due to safety concerns.

The event organised by Falmouth Fire Station normally takes place on November 5th at Falmouth Cricket Ground and is a firm favourite among the community, bringing together local community groups and charities.

However, Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service announced today (October 3) that this year's display would not go ahead as it cannot be "delivered to the standard of safety and organisation that our community rightly expects."

In a statement the fire service said the decision "had not been taken lightly" and had been taken following "discussions with multiple agencies."

They added that: "The organising team is committed to working with partners to bring the display back in the future.

"We’d like to thank everyone for their understanding, patience and continued support, and we look forward to celebrating with our community again soon."
