A litter picker on his bike has gone viral after video footage shows him being turned away from a Cornwall tip.

Julian Hutchinson was told by staff that he wasn't allowed there on his bike - which he uses to carry rubbish he's picked up from the streets.

Cornwall Council says cyclists ARE permitted - but for safety reasons, pedestrians aren't.

Sharing his story on Facebook, Julian said: "After today's litter pick on the A39, meeting lots of nice people, this chap approached me.

"It has made me wonder for the first time if I should give up what I treat as a hobby.

"I apologise for any rude words I used, but it appears identifying people through ANPR is more important than cleaning our world.

"This hiccup will not stop me doing what I love."

In an update, he added: "Your support and sharing, emailing, showing a united front, including local political parties who also messaged to help turn this around.

"Bicycles can enter to drop rubbish!

"I hope this also teaches you all how the power of people can make a change, but we must stand together to be the change."

'We are thankful to all the volunteers that help keep Cornwall clean'

Cornwall Council tell us they are now going to update the booking form - so cyclists will be able to book a slot and get rid of their rubbish.

They added: "We are currently trialling a booking system at seven of the HWRCs which requires all visitors to book a slot in advance.

"We will update the booking form to enable cyclists to book.

"Cyclists are permitted to visit Cornwall’s Household Waste and Recycling Centres (HWRCs).

"For safety reasons, pedestrians are not permitted at the sites.

"We are thankful to all the volunteers that help keep Cornwall clean."
