Lands End Airport closed as emergency services tackle fire nearby
Fire crews are tackling the blaze in St Buryan, where huge plumes of smoke can be seen
Land's End Airport has been closed while emergency services deal with a fire near the site.
Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service were called to the fire in the area of Crows-An-Wra in St Buryan at around 12:19 this afternoon (12 august).
Large plumes of smoke can be seen in the area near the airport.
In a statement a spokesperson for the airport was temporarily closed and passengers and employees were being moved safely away from the site while the situation is monitored.
The fire service added that upon arrival crews requested further assistance and more appliances were on their way to the scene.
A spokesperson for the airport said: "We are aware of a fire in the vicinity of Land’s End Airport, which is currently being managed by the emergency services.
"As always, the safety of our passengers, crew and employees is our highest priority, and we are working closely with the emergency services and following their guidance."
