Home Bargains plans new store at former Homebase site in Truro
Proposal includes garden centre at Treliske Industrial Estate
The vacant Homebase site in Truro, empty for over a year, might soon host a new Home Bargains store. Plans submitted to Cornwall Council indicate the discount retail chain’s interest in opening at this prime retail location within the Treliske Industrial Estate.
The planning application seeks advertisement consent for several new signs, including four aluminium box signs, vinyls, and a totem sign, to indicate the presence of a Home Bargains store and its Garden World garden centre division.
Closed since March 2025, the Homebase site has left a notable gap in the area for 15 months. The application has been submitted by TJ Morris Limited, the parent company of Home Bargains. While the proposal does not explicitly state Home Bargains on the form, the elevation drawings clearly display the brand's name alongside Garden World.
Home Bargains, known for selling a broad array of discounted products—from health and beauty items to household goods, food, toys, and homeware—operates over 600 stores throughout the UK. A smaller Home Bargains outlet currently exists at the nearby Threemilestone Retail Park, with additional stores in Bodmin, Saltash, Camborne, and Hayle.
