A 56-year-old man from Hayle, Mark Vincent, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for a series of historic sexual offences against two young girls.

Sentencing took place at Truro Crown Court following Vincent's conviction last month on 23 counts, including three counts of rape, indecent assault, and sexual assault, all occurring over a span of 25 years.

Vincent, of Guildford Road, groomed his first victim and subjected her to nearly a decade of sexual abuse under the guise of a loving partnership. Later, he targeted a second girl, using similar tactics and commencing the abuse after making her watch adult films.

The case came to light when the first victim saw Vincent with another girl and raised concerns with the police. Despite initial denial, audio evidence revealed Vincent admitting to past offences, which he later dismissed as efforts to placate a witness.

Detective Constable Andrew Colley, who led the investigation, emphasised the significance of reporting sexual offences irrespective of the time elapsed. He praised the victims for their courage, which ensured Vincent's conviction.

DC Colley encourages anyone experiencing similar abuse to report it, highlighting the potential to bring perpetrators to justice and prevent further crimes.
