Hayle Cricket Club in Cornwall has suffered significant damage caused by a fire during Storm Goretti last Thursday night.

The fire began in the club's cellar following high winds and electrical surges, destroying much of the downstairs area. The upstairs remains intact due to its concrete flooring.

The club, which has three months to prepare for the cricket season starting in April, is now working with insurers to assess the damage and begin repairs. However, it has announced that the venue is currently out of action for functions and meetings.

As a result, Hayle Cricket Club’s Annual General Meeting has been moved to Hayle RFC and will take place on 14th January.

In a post, the club thanked Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service and the National Grid for their swift response in containing the fire during difficult weather conditions, as well as committee members who acted quickly to assist.

The club expressed hope of being ready for the start of the cricket season but said updates would follow as more information becomes available.
