People return to Liskeard homes after gas leak
Many were evacuated overnight
People living in part of Liskeard have been given the all-clear to return home after a gas leak south of the A390 led to temporary evacuations and safety measures through the night last night.
The incident, near Pengover Road, required the involvement of fire services, police, and engineers from Wales and West Gas.
A 100-metre cordon was established as authorities worked to isolate the leak, prompting evacuations and advisories against lighting fires or using equipment that could spark.
Devon and Cornwall Police and emergency workers coordinated efforts to tackle the potential risk of fire and explosion, ensuring public safety throughout.
As of 3:55 am, the emergency response was handed over to the Gas Agency, and Cornwall Fire and Rescue resources were withdrawn, signalling an end to the disruption, with roads being reopened and people allowed home early this morning.
