Fundraiser launched after fire destroys historic sailing boat
Restoration effort led by shipwright Spike Davies ends after fire leaves vessel unsalvageable
A fundraising campaign has been launched to support master shipwright Spike Davies after a fire destroyed the historic sailing boat Keewaydin at Sailors Creek.
The incident, which occurred on 19th February, has left Keewaydin unsalvageable after two years of dedicated restoration efforts spearheaded by Davies and a committed group of volunteers.
Keewaydin, a 1913 Lowestoft fishing trawler, was due to be launched at the beginning of March 2026, making the timing of the fire particularly devastating.
Davies has also faced the loss of his tools and equipment in the blaze, essential items for his trade as a craftsman.
The fundraising initiative aims to help Davies rebuild his future by replacing the tools lost in the fire.
