Contents of Flambards Village to be auctioned off
Items from the indoor exhibitions are being sold on March 25th-27th.
The items in an indoor exhibition at one of Cornwall's most beloved theme parks are being auctioned off later this month.
Rising costs and falling visitor numbers forced Flambards in Helston's closure in November last year.
The auction will include items from all 50 detailed shops in the Victorian Village, the ‘Britain in the Blitz’ installation, and the surrounding War Galleries, as well as all the supporting historical displays.
The auction- which is being held from Tuesday March 25th to Thursday March 27th- will also include the full size Concorde and the Avro Shackleton cockpit.
Lay's Auctioneer's based in Penzance- who are overseeing the sales- say it 'presents a unique opportunity not just for collectors but members of the public wishing to acquire memorabilia of this most beloved and iconic place.'
David Lay- director of the auctioneers- has been on site with his team since December last year, cataloguing the thousands of extraordinary items that will be sold.
He said: "The whole is so much greater than the sum of its parts.
"To walk the streets of The Flambards Village is to be transported to a halcyon past, a past created by Audrey Hale using vast quantities of original material which is now so rare as to be akin to hens teeth.
"Whilst we have all been enriched by the experience of cataloguing this remarkable collection, it has been tinged with sadness that this incredible creation - a whole Victorian town, perfectly realised in full-scale, with every corner, shop, street and building absolutely historically correct, down to the most minute detail, must now be dispersed.
"However, that is the nature of things, and from this auction other collections will be improved, new collections will be formed.
"This collection will be an inspiration."
The contents of Flambards will remain on site for public viewings taking place between Saturday 22nd March and Monday 24th March, before going on sale the day after.
The auction will be held globally online and in Lay’s Penzance Salerooms.
