First baby beavers arrival confirmed at Cornish nature reserve
Cornwall Wildlife Trust have welcomed the arrival of the first confirmed wild beaver kits on the site at their rewilding site, Helman Tor,
The kits are the offspring of beavers that appeared at Helman Tor in what was dubbed a “beaver bombing” – an illegal release which took place in early 2024.
Laura Snell, Conservation Officer at Cornwall Wildlife Trust said“At first we weren’t certain,” she said. “But recent footage clearly shows a small kit appearing in the corner of the frame. It’s a significant moment - a sign that the habitat the beavers have created is healthy and thriving enough to support the next generation.”
The arrival of the kits is a hopeful sign for the future of wild beavers in Cornwall.
