A father and his 14-year-old son have been rescued by the Port Isaac Lifeboat team after their kayaks drifted off Boscastle on Saturday morning.

The incident began when Falmouth Coastguard received reports of a child in the water and two kayaks adrift.

Upon arriving at Penally Point, the lifeboat crew discovered the pair on rocks on opposite sides of a gully separated by approximately 100 metres.

The sea conditions in the area had swells of around 1.5 metres.

A crew member was sent ashore to reassure the father and son and help them into the lifeboat.

Despite the challenging sea conditions, both were safely recovered and taken to Boscastle Harbour, where a Coastguard team awaited them.

The lifeboat subsequently returned to sea to retrieve the abandoned kayaks and tow them safely back to the harbour.

The lifeboat crew spent over two and a half hours at sea before returning to Port Isaac.
