Falmouth's first public drone show has been cancelled due to technical difficulties.

The festive themed display featuring 50 drones was due to take place on Friday (December 5) over Falmouth Harbour as part of Falmouth's Festive Weekend.

The Falmouth Town Team said in a post on social media that the drone show had been cancelled due to "technical difficulties identified by the operator."

They added "Safety was never a concern, but the risk of a disrupted performance meant the decision was made to cancel."

The drone show was due to be operated by Afterglow and its company director Tom Wadsworth said the decision had been taken after testing found issues with the drone's compass modules.

In a statement Mr Wadsworth said:

"I'm afraid that, due to technical issues with the drones and the not-so-great weather on Friday, we have taken the unfortunate decision to cancel our drone show this week.

"We had planned to take off from the Prince of Wales Pier, but in testing this week, we found that the steel pier was causing interference with our drone's compass modules.

"We are working with our manufacturer to address the issue, but unfortunately, this will not be until the New Year."

The rest of the Festive Weekend activities are still due to take place, and on Friday local businesses will be offering exclusive deals, special menus, and events.

Over the weekend there will also be an artificial ice rink, festive land train, giant snow globe, live carol singers, and Santa’s Grotto.
