A Falmouth man's been handed a 13 year jail sentence for rape.

46 year old Christian Dodd, formerly of Cliff Road, has been sentenced at Truro Crown Court today (Wednesday 14th May) after being found guilty at a trial earlier this month.

Dodd was arrested in August 2022 and told a police interview that a woman has not consented, telling officers he 'had no excuse to do what he had done’.

But he pleaded not guilty in court to counts of rape and assaulting a female by penetration.

A jury convicted him of those charges, but cleared him of a further sexual assault, relating to a case in November 2021.

His sentence includes 13 years in prison for rape, and seven years for the sexual assault, to run concurrently.

Investigating Officer from Devon and Cornwall Police, Detective Constable Isabelle Woodall said: The investigation into this matter commenced in 2022. It has been a trying time, and it is a relief for all concerned that it has finally been brought to a conclusion.”
